AUSTIN, TX — Like the run-up to presidential elections or retailers’ preparations for Christmas sales, planning for SXSW starts early. Conference organizers said registration for SXSW 2018 starts on Tuesday.
“That’s tomorrow, you guys!” SXSW organizers said in a Monday press release. “This is your chance to access the best discounts and hotel availability. Don’t delay and you’ll have a great stay.”
Indeed, given the immense international crowds descending each year for the massive arts, music and technology conference, booking early is not a bad idea. The closer one gets to SXSW, the higher the likelihood that hotels are booked and airbnb housing spoken for.
For the true early birds, registration opens for SXSW 2018 on Tuesday, August 1 at 10:00am CT.
Last week, SXSW officials announced the first round of confirmed speakers, including keynote speakers that include Academy Award winner Barry Jenkins, psychotherapist and best-selling author Esther Perel, and technology entrepreneur and quantum computing expert whurley. Featured Speakers for 2018 include space entrepreneur Bob Richards, Kaiser Permanente CEO Bernard J. Tyson, Empowering a Billion Women by 2020 chairman and CEO Ingrid Vanderveldt, artist and poet Cleo Wade, and founder of the Future Today Institute Amy Webb.
“All this great programming can only mean we’re headed into one of our best years yet,” officials said. “The SXSW community is one of the most vibrant, forward-thinking, and creative in the world.”
On tap will be “…all the learning, networking, and unexpected discoveries that come from attending our Conference, Exhibitions and iconic Film, Music, Comedy, and Interactive Festivals,” organizers added.
For those unsure of what badge to buy (there are varying levels of access secured via individual badges save for the all-access Platinum Badge), SXSW officials have devised a handy quiz. The Tracks Quiz helps narrow down a prospective attendee’s focus of interest, yielding insight into the appropriate badge to purchase.
That aforementioned Platinum Badge, however, is the key to everything, ensuring primary access: “All attendees will receive primary entry to programming associated with their badge type, in addition to enjoying secondary access to most other SXSW events,” SXSW helpfully note.
